Message: so i went to get my truck quoted on doing an exhaust system. I want it to sound loud and not ricy also with a good rumble. I have read things on gibson, magnaflow, and flowmaster. the guy at the mufler shop tld me that the v6 didn't have enough HP for the flowmaster. he said that the flowmaster would not be a good choice because they require more hp to sound good. i just want a dual rear side exit exhaus. i already know i need 2 1/4 in pipe. but which muffler is my best choice?

Message: If it weren't dark out, I'd crawl under my truck and tell you what I'm running for a muffler. I've got a split system into the chrome "boom" tubes out back and it sounds pretty decent considering it's a V6. If I have a chance, I could take a short vid and post it on my youtube account so you can hear what it sounds like.

Message: I got a v6 with a flowmaster super 40 and I think it sounds pretty mean. Once you get into the higher RPMs you can tell it's a 6 but just idling some people stop to ask.

Message: I've uploaded it to Youtube.com
I don't have the url available as it's still processing, but you should be able to find it with a keyword search. I used "dual exhaust Dakota 3.9 Dodge muffler"

That's the link. You'll probably have to cut and paste, I don't want to break any rules around here, but that will bring you directly to it.

Message: I'm running a single in dual out magnaflow sounds great till about 4000 rpm then goes from a low deep tone to high but i like it. I dont care bout the sound just wanted less restrictive exhaust. Putting on a magaflow cat this weekend also.

Message: UPDATE
I pulled the cat and straight piped it for the time being due to a rattley converter. Seems the honey comb was good, but the block was loose inside, so I need a new one anyway.
For your perusement in the meantime, I made a vid of the truck without a cat. TOO NOISY, and no improvement on a stock motor one way or another performance-wise.

Message: I've been very satisfied with my 18" glasspack (esp. for the money) that I've been running for about 8 months or so now on my stock exhaust system. Flows way better than stock (essentially a straight tube with fiberglass insulation), not loud at all on highway speeds, sounds very aggressive at wide-open, and very throaty like a V8 in the lower rpms. I've yet to here a V6 that sounds as good as mine except from a Mustang. Ofcourse you may want to look into a couple intake mods as I did if you go with a glasspack to get the full benefit of a more freely flowing exhaust.
