Subject: Ram Air Kit IP: Logged
Message: I am thinking about buying a Keystone Single Scoop Ram-Air hood for my Dakota. Now I have the 3.9, but the required Ram-Air kit for the hood says only 318s and 360s. I know that the 3.9s are just about the same as the v8s (excluding the 4.7). Will this kit work on my 3.9?

Message: It should work just fine. the 3.9 5.2 5.9 all use basically the same tb. heck the 3.9 is just a 5.2 with 2 cylinders cut off. you should have no problem.

Message: Check krcracing.com they also have some ram
air hoods a nice double for the gen 2 trucks
I cant see what year your truck is because of
those dam adds on the side
I made my own ram air hood setup with a lund
eclisp scoop
I use a K&N 14X3 with the K&N exstream top
cover you will really notice the diff in
performance from 50mph on up just stick your
hand out the window at 50 and feel how hard
its pushing
It is claimed that at 50mph with a good ram setup
equal to 1/2 pound boost 1 pound at 100mph
Just rolling along excellerating slow very light
throttle I can feel it pickup at 50mph just to
see if it was the ram air I put the reg cover on
and there is a noticeable differance
and with the air being picked up right off the
hood no tubes to heat up your getting the coldest
air posible
You should also relocate your IAT incoming air
temp sensor 6" from the throttle body so it reads
the colder air this is the best location for this
sensor because you do need to pick up some engine
temp this will read aprox 90 to 120 in the
intake they become heat soaked and read from
180 to 200
reading the colder air gives you more timing and
fuel and a small power increase
If the sensor reads 50 degrees or less it will
trip a code IAT voltage to high that is why
this is the optimal location in the tube or
bottom of air cleaner 6" from body

Message: Well, I got the hood today. I plan on getting the Ram-Air kit after I get it painted. I hope that it works. Why would they not list it for the 3.9s if they are the same as the 5.2s and 5.9s?

Message: Well, I am getting the truck back from the body shop tomorrow. I already got the ram-air kit. I do not think that it will work, but I will see. It seems to me that the V8s intake sets further forward than the V6 and the air-cleaner looks too big, I figure that I will have clearance problems. Oh, well, I will let everyone know when I get the truck back.

Message: Well, as soon as I get back from out of town I will try it out. If it works I will get some pictures. If it doesn't I will give detail as to why and there might be a way to rig it to work.

Message: You will just have to mod it a little but it
should work fine
relocate the IAT and do the crank sensor mod and
be sure you have a good o2 sensor a lazy o2
will not read the increased flow, if you notice no
diff thats no doubt that its lazy ngk.com a new
ngk ntk sensor less than half what mopar charges
and its the same that was installed at the factory
Our plans change from day to day not sure what
we are going to do yet I want to move where its
warmer these cold northern wisconsin winters
make me stiff with the artritis I have
