Band adjust with shift kits

TCI
front 2 1/2
rear 4

TransGo
front 1 3/4
rear 3 1/2

On the A500 trans band drag will happen at
front 1 1/2
rear 3

I have my 95 42rh TCI heavy duty toeing setup
front 2
rear 4
This is set from 72 inch pounds

presure setting
42rh 1 5/16
42 44 re 1 1/4

This is from body to spring seat with small
ruler or scale

you can take this up on the stock trans
rh 1 1/4
re 1/3/16
this will raise line presure aprox 10psi
center port idle in gear with brake on
50 to 70 psi as soon as you touch trottle
100psi+
I have seen these as low as 30psi from the factory
thats crap

when you do a filter and fluid change you should
turn the pressure screw counter clock wise raises
pressure 1 turn this will compensate for normal
ware and leakage and make your trans work a lot
better

I have mine at 1 3/16 70 psi

the re trans you can go 1 1/2 turns up 2 sometimes
will trip the trans pressure code with the
transgo kit they supply a resistor than you
can go 4 turns up

the rh 4 turns there is no trans codes on the
obd 1 system

This can be done and will not harm your trans
in any way what it does id make it shift
faster and firmer it will also firm up
the torque converter lockup and give it more
holding power

Have Fun

Larry, where is the best place to measure the pressure? I have a 1992 stock 42RH with stock band adjustment, and am happy with shift points, but it could shift a little faster. 1-2 and 2-3 are a little slow to shift. Since I get 21 mpg highway with all stock 4WD vehicle, I don't think there is significant slippage. But I'm curious to know what my line pressure is and if I should boost it. 156K miles on original tranny.

Hey Larry. Would you happen to have the instructions handy to adjust the bands on a 92 3.9 42RH Tranny?

Thanks in advance!

BTW Larry... Would you be able to tell me where to adjust the pressure you mentioned here for the 42RH, and how? Pictures?

I know.. being a pest, but on vacation and trying to cram it all in.

Thanks in advance!

I appreciate you bringing my attention back to the link at the top of this page, but it shows nothing about adjusting the line pressure. That's what I'm needing to know about.

Just go to the public library look in there
manuals and find the picture with the line
presure test port

a regular 0 to 250 psi will work here

This is not a super critical adjustment 1 turn
equals aprox 6psi most of the transmissions are
within specs 50 to 70 psi and you can run 85psi
safly so going up 2 turns is very safe all it
will do is make it shift a little faster and
firmer, more holding power

This is one of the main things any shift kit does
is increase line pressure

If you were way above or below your trans would
not shift right either bang gears or slip

a reg allen wrench will not fit between the bolt
and case just mark with a file turn with a needle
nose plyers counting the turns

92 to 95 RH 2 turns up
96 and up 1 1/2 turns up

This is a quick way to make your trans a little
tougher if your trans is a little slugish do
this at your next fluid and filter change

This will also compensate for normal trans wear
and leakage pressure drops make it work like new
again good for transmissions with over 100,000
miles that still work well just getting a little
tired this will wake it back up
