Thinking about adding some things. about how much hp will i get from adding: msd-6a, e3 plugs, 8.5mm wires, a coil, new cap and rotor, and whats the deal i've read about the crank sensor making more hp. and maybe using some pieces of the air cleaner assy. off a newer dak or durango to making a cold air system.

93 dakota 3.9 v-8 tb, magnaflow exhaust
00 durango 5.2 cold air, flowmaster duals

i don't think you'll gain any hp from that list but your dak will be happy and perform better for you.

With increased air flow quicker exhaust scaveging why would there not be hp gain?

i don't see anything on your first post that would affect that except maybe the cps mod. but even that would be negligible. you not going to get anything more from just plugs and wires.

as far as cold air, if you have the cash to burn, buy an FIPK. i think that money could be better spent on a S/C programmer(in your case maybe a Mopar PCM) or 1.7RR's.

Eddie,

you WILL gain horsepower but not much, around 10

if you installed the MSD 6a, 8207 coil and the wires, E3 plugs
gapped at .055 (you can mess around with this), and the new cap
and rotor along with the cps mod you will tell the difference -
especially if your truck is close to stock

once Larry reads your post he will tell you everything you need
to know about gaining horsepower and MPG in these 3.9s

you can get your truck running close to 200 horsepower at the
wheels without takin the motor apart...

exhaust, intake, lowered 4/4, rear anti-sway bar)

a good set of plugs you can pickup 4hp

The msd system stock motor 5hp better low end
response and gas mileage

a modded motor with all the boltons and mods
the msd will show 10hp

The halo plugs have a .046 gap

The MSD with the NGK FR5 at $2.25 ea if you want
the gains you need to open the gap .055 I also
like to index these with the open end of the
ground strap up between 11 and 1 o clock the
squash gas is forced right down in this direction
because of the head design

You will need better wires with the MSD I use
the MSD 8.5 same year 5.2 you have 2 wires left
but a perfict fit

cold air helps throttle response and gas mileage
cold air can carrie more fuel the power increases
claimed by these companies is bull 15 20 hp no
way not on the 3.9 maybe 3 to 5 I have verified
3hp at the wheels on a dyno with a cold air setup
46mm fastman RWHP gain 14hp we than added the
cold air and pulled 17

I have not tried the E3 plugs yet but I know
some who are using them with the MSD and say
they run very well just like the halo
E3 $5.99 ea
Halo $8.99 ea
NGK V $2.25 ea

most will not spend the money but at least go
NGK you will be very happy you did

I have tested the Halos, Autolite 3923, AP3923, Torque Master, Bosch +2 and +4s, and E3s. I have had the best mileage results using the E3 3.64 a substitute for the Autolite 3923 using an MSD 6a system on my v6 dakota. I'm currently running the Halos in the v6 dakota. The performance is about equal between the E3 and Halo plugs. I'm running a set of NGK vpower FR4 on a 1992 dakota 4x4 with a 5.2 liter v8 gapped at .055" and the truck runs better with these plugs than the Autolite AP3923s gapped at .055". The Autolites and NGK was indexed between 10 and 2 oclock in the combustion chanber. I know XMR is running a set of E3s in his v6 dakota and getting good results.

92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.
