Subject: TPS wrong at WOT IP: Logged
Message: I had a bad TPS on my 2000 quadcab 3.9 2wheel drive. When diagnosing I noticed it only read 3.75V at WOT and the haynes book says it should read 4.5V. I bought a new TPS and I get the same readings. Am I losing power or not getting snappy downshifts because of this lower reading? Anybody know how to tweak it to get the reading right?
Thanks
Ed

Message: See if you have the correct voltage going to the sensor. If you don't there is no point in trying to "tweak" it.

Message: I would check my battery voltage and charging voltage. Cars have a bad habit of losing voltage with age due to bad wire connecters and more so the grounding points. I would check all grounding points first. You may even have an engine ground wire that broke. Also remove your battery cables and clean them and the battery posts. Disconnect the battery ground cable at its other end also. This is a problamatic connection That allows voltage to slowly decrease on all cars.
So many problems .... so little time

Message: Voltage is 5.1 on the third wire and nominal is 5.0 so that's good. I figure a workaround would be bumping that voltage to 6 but I have to think that this should be a tweaking thing it should be right somehow w/o mods.

Message: Why do you suspect the TPS is bad? Consider that the Haynes book may be wrong (they often are). I think 3.8 volts is what I've heard is correct for WOT.
Do you have any fault codes that make you suspect the TPS? What are your symptoms?

Message: LOL
the TPS will not show the full 5 volts at wot
a good TPS should show a full 3 volt change
idle .5 wot 3.5
idle .75 wot 3.75
this is a good tps
these guys live on another planet if any of the
sensors running on the 5 volt power supply from
the computer read over 4.8 4.9 volts they will
trow codes for sensor voltage to high
this includes map, tps, IAT, engine temp and the
o2 sensor
