Where is the temp. sensor located in a 92 Dakota w/ a 3.9? Also does anyone know off the top of their head what size (diameter and length) the Thermostat bolts are?

There are two sensors - a single wire sensor on the passenger side of the thermostat housing that is for your gauge, and a coolant temperature switch (2-wire) on the driver's side of the housing. That is used for the computer in setting mixture.

Don't remember bolt size offhand, just that they are a bear to get at if you have A/C, and not fun to rethread when installing the thermostat. Therefore, use a good brand like Stant or Robertshaw. Also, make sure the housing is rotated the correct way when installing - it's labeled "front" on one side.

IIRC it's a 9/16. They aren't but about an inch long. Use a long extension and just flex the radiator hose out of the way for the drivers side bolt. To reinstall use a "grabber" tool to put the bolt in the hole and start the threads. Then use the extension and socket.
Takes all of about 5 minutes. Good time to flush the antifreeze. While the hose is out of the way is a good time to replace the temp switch if that is what you had planned. It's easier if you remove the Y shaped AC bracket on the drivers side that's next to the radiator hose.

Thanks for the info guys. I am glad that this forum exists, I am also glad that people respond to the questions asked. Again, Much thanks. I replaced the thermo w/ the best one O'reillys had (not sure of the brand, but I know it was the fail safe one). I also replaced both the temp sensors and even got better gas mileage by doing it. I cross threaded one bolt and had to retap it so that sucked a$$. Later guys.
