Subject: What is it? IP: Logged
Message: I was under my truck today doing a pre winter inspection and it came back to my attention that I have a component on this truck that I have no idea what it is or what its purpose is.
It's a largish black box located on the drivers side frame rail that has a large diameter hose ( heater core sized ) and the fuel line runs into and out of it, and there is a wiring harness plug attached to it. I can assume that it isn't the fuel pump ( now wouldn't that make it easy to fix ) and it's too big to be a fuel filter. Charcoal canister with a purge valve?

Message: It is part of the evaporative emissions control system. That large black box is the EVAP canister. The canister is filled with charcoal to absorb fuel vapors.
