Message: I am sure this has been gone over several times ,but what is the best brand of cap and rotor that I can buy for my 92 dak w/ a 3.9? I just bought new plugs and wires for the truck from the stealership all Mopar wires and the original Champion plugs. I checked the codes on my truck because it was running rough and I am getting codes 11 which is "No distributor reference signal during cranking." Anyone know what that means? I am also getting 17 which is "Knock sensor is open or shorted / Engine running to cold." What is a knock sensor? Where does it go? Expensive? Last but not least 62 "Emission maint. reminder light not being updated." Please help. I am not sure what all the codes mean.

Message: EMR light needs to be shut off with scanner or
hard reset
there is no knock sensor on the mag motors
no dist ref you need to check connections on the
pickup plate in dist if not that replace the
pickup it tells the injectors when to fire
cap off rotor out it just lifts out
NAPA mo26 & 28 brass incert cap and rotor $15
wires taylor 8mm or MSD 8.5mm both around $65
just as much as a good stock set
engine temp sensor or your thermo is stuck open
it will trip this code if the comp does not see
at least 170 degrees
try the NGK Vpower plugs they run great .035
on your obd1
champ be sure its the LC4 extended tip the reg
RN12 short plug causes a flat spot just off
idle on a lot of these trucks

Message: Larry please read and reply:
Where should I pick up a p/u plate? I think I allready replaced it once... What is a "hard reset" and how do I achieve that? I have no scanner. I think I bought a low temp thermostat, probably a bad idea huh? What is OBD1? Sorry so many questions... The motor is a Magnum so that is good news, don't have to spend money on an expensive sensor (knock). Should I buy a new temp sensor and a new thermostat? If I buy a therm. where should I pick it up and what brand and temp? Thanks for your time

Message: Hard reset means disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to clear codes. OBD1 means 1st generation of On-Board Diagnostics. The code 17 is a thermostat stuck open, common on these. I'd use Stant or Robertshaw (which is the OEM on these). I've had other brands fail within a year. Your temp sensors should be fine. Make sure you don't accidentally unplug them while replacing the thermostat - it's a little hard reaching in there.

Message: I found out that one of the codes it is throwing could be from my crank sensor. The truck runs fine sometimes and others it will die or cut out going down the rode, it is hit or miss though. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't. I have changed the Fuel pump, fuel filter, o2 sensor, t.p.s., egr valve, gaskets, battery, plugs, wires, cap, p/u coil, coil, etc... Does the symptoms sound like it could be the sensor? I do have a colder therm. in the truck, someone said it would run better w/ it in there. What temp should I buy, 195? Any help would be appriciated.

Message: Also, are the NGK V-Power plugs the best for the application? I drive back and forth to work, no hot-roding, the truck is a five speed if that matters?

Message: The regular stant 195 will run around 185 188
a good thermo
don't use a 180 if you live where it gets cold
like 0 and below
The FR4 Vpower ngks run excellent in these trucks
better power throttle response and gas mileage
you will be very happy you used them
obd1 92 to 95
obd2 96 and up
on board diagnostics
1 first generation
2 second just like Bob said
The crank sensor or dist pickup and thermo can be
gotten from almost any parts store check prices
sometimes the dealer has better prices carquest
is nuts on some of there parts a egr $150 when
they are around $85 everywhere else even the
dealer
The engine temp sensor is only around $6 and is
easy to get to when you do the thermo get a thermo
gasket also don't use the old one
replace it
the sensor 2 wire A/C side drivers
the 1 wire alt side passinger is the guage sender
