I know a lot of guys on here use synthetic oil like Amsoil, Redline and Royal Purple. Amsoil advertises that you can go 25K mile without changing oil. How about it guys...is that stuff good enough to go 25K miles??? How long do you synthetic guys go before changing oil???

All motor oils turn dark after a few thousand miles, because of soot, blow-by and other combustion processes. Why would you want to leave that stuff in your engine for 25,000 miles?
If you're going to do that, get a bypass filter to remove all those contaminants, Amsoil sells one.

i agree with jimmyd. even with so called "high performance" filters like K&N gold, the oil still turns dark after a couple thousand miles. synthetics dont really offer that much more protection compared to regualr oils changed at 3,000 regularly.

Black doesn't have to mean your oil is shot. Everybody needs to study up on filters and learn the real deal. I use MOBIL 1 EP 10-30. I drive about 7,500 miles a year on each rig. I use MOBIL1 's best filter and they are pricy. Doin this I change my oil once a year. I feel very comfortable considering everything I learned through the years and more importantly the comparison reviews (independant) I have read on the net. Very interesting, eye opening information. Also your owners manual says 7,000 on Dino oil unless your use is severe. they build them. Pay attention. It's the Lub joints that push the far outdated 3,000 mile changes to keep the bucks rolling in at your expence.

So many problems .... So little time

The 25,000 miles is under certian conditions but
even doing that they rcomend changing the filter
at 6,000 miles

I run all Amsoil except I went to royal purple
in my motors for 1 reason they are the only oil
that can document a power increase using it

I noticed an increase with the amsoil but more
with the royal purple about the same price

look at it this way all syns are good the royal
purple is the high performance synthetic

I change mine every 5 to 6000 miles K&N filter

Before syns I ran the castrol GTX as someone
mentioned here what really matters is scedualed
changes

My grandfather always bought new oldsmobiles and
never changed his oil at 60,000 they were shot
he bought a new car every 3 years

If he was still with us he would be 135 now LOL
my grand mother same side did live to 101 wow
don't know if I want to be around that long

You need to do some research the syns will handle
more load and heat than dino oils and is far
supier than dino oils

I also use the amsoil grease on my vehicles my
dak at 110,000 I replaced the idler arm and
pitman arm why they had no grease fittings the
moog replacements have them tie rod ends and
ball joints all still good and thats great on a
4x4 that does lots of off roading and water and
mud all the time

maybe its just me I also got 100,000 miles from
my org brakes that to is great for a 4x4

I had my truck stuck in a river once ran a tree
over under water that I did not see water running
trew the cab went from seat into the box put
tail gate down jumped for shore and still got
wet feet LOL

I have also hit water holes low range 60mph
2 3 feet deep whats neat is the truck went
straight most will turn sidways

I use my truck LOL

not to mention lofting it 3 feet in the air over
little jumps and landing good I will swear by the
amsoil grease with moly

Its Fun that is what the truck was built for
to have FUN!!!

Steve the amsoil guy on this site has a forum on another dakota site.

He talks about the 25k mile oil change and the thread gets 5 stars.

Link to Steve's talk about amsoil's 25k mile oil change.
