I'm getting a 360 (727) off a buddy that's been sitting in a garage for 10 yrs, that's out of a '77-'78 van. Well, I want to swap out my 3.9L/5spd out of my '96 DAK. Anybody, know any troubles I will run into. Also, I'm going to have to do it on a budget (or it may just take a really long time, kid on the way).
Even with motor majority stock, it should be a fun truck.

Lots of wireing to change

Other than that all will bolt in have to change
trans mount and drive shaft

Will my 5spd, and driveline be out of the question. I drive the truck just enough where the manual is still fun. (I don't have a over- developed left calf)

You can run the 5 speed use the bell, flywheel
clutch presure plate and throw out all will bolt
right to the older motor

redrider.us also makes parts basicly presure
switches to run the new overdrive autos in the
older trucks

engineswaps.com will have the trans mount they
also make kits to run the 518's behind the big
blocks 361, 383, 400, 440 and kits to bolt the
big blocks into the dakotas

It would be easier from a wireing stand point to
just bolt a 318 or 360 mag in all you need to do
is run the V8 comp and add 2 injector wires

you will need a wire diagram you can run all the
guages with the org sensors heat and volts tack
will need to be rewired as will IGN

It will be a small head ach but can be done

I have a local guy who put a 383 magnum and a 4
speed into his dakota from a 69 charger one fast
truck it has droped into the high 11's
11.9 was the best 12.2 12.3 all day long
