Subject: 3.9ltr V6 Throttle Body Swap Problem. IP: Logged
Message: Ok. I finaly got a V8 throtle body for my '98 V6 Dakota. I installed a new TPS and Throttle Valve Sensor. We didn't touch anything else at all. Now, when my automatic shifts from 1st to 2nd and then 3rd it's like it's "hurrying" thru the gears. When it's in 3rd and OD it's just fine, and has outstanding performance. But in the first 2 gears it just jumps thru them. I have adjusted the throttle valve cable and no luck. And there is no check engine light. The throttle body came off of a 2000 V8 and there was no shifting problem at all on the way over to my buddies where we did the swap. Any help would be great.

Message: put your old TPS sensor back and see what
happens
96 the cable clip 1 finger 1 thumb reach down
spread clip and lift up remove clip move cable
replace clip
older style just push in from side to move
cable
There has to be a change in shift points if
this cable is moved move 1/4"
did it fall off under truck drivers side look
and be sure its moving when someone hits the
gas
also reset comp disconect batt hold key to start
for 2 min now reconnect batt start truck let
idle do not touch gas shut off do this 3 times
than it will have learned the new idle and
tps settings

Message: I got it fixed. Seems the cable bracket that came on the TB was bent forward where the throttle valve cable connects about a 1/4". I just swapped the old one for it and voila, it worked. Thanks for helping.

Message: No junkyard dog. More like a huge demon. Have had alot of dumb probs with it. Like a wire broke somehow a month or so ago and the damn thing would'nt shift into OD. Just dumb luck I guess. You would'nt know which fuel injectors to use on it by any chance?
