Hey everyone, I've been a follower of the V6 forum for quite some time, but I'm in a predicament with my '96 Dakota Sport which seems to be idling to low. Everytime I start the ignition, the RPMs rev to about 1200-1300 and drop right back down (far enough that it shuts the engine back off). If I give it some gas, I can get the idling to stabilize to 700 which seems pretty low. In park, when I give it some gas off an idle, the RPMs will rise then actually drop down to 600 or so before it trys to stabilize. All the power still seems to be there when I'm actually in gear moving.

The only thing I can think of that I did recently to the truck was get an oil change and use STP fuel injection cleaner in the gas (which I had used once before with no problems). I didn't have any problems before this so there may or may not be a correlation. My mods are a Fastman throttle body, K&N intake, 180 t-stat, Stage 2 Jet Chip, and relatively new spark plugs and wires. The most recent of these was the Jet Chip which I've had for about a month and a half. I use 89 octane fuel.

Any ideas would be great..thanks.

how's your battery? if it's a few yrs old you may want to get it load tested.

if the battery is ok, check & clean the IAC.

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at the IAC. When I went to fill up on a new tank of gas, I was still having some idling trouble at first. I went ahead and reset my PCM thinking it couldn't hurt and somehow on the second try after that I got it idling back to normal.
