Hey guys,
two questions for you all.

97 3.9 Dakota CC 4wd, 5 Speed, with 117k miles.

1st. My dak has developed a slight "rattle". I have no idea where its coming from since i can only hear it under medium to hard exceleration and it wont do it while the truck is standing still, even if i rev the engine really hard. Any one care to take a stab at what it mght be?

2d. questions is, i need to replace the timeing chain, gear, install tensioner etc. Where is a good place to get the parts? I've looked around but so far none of the places ive checked have all the parts like the tensioner, just the gears, or chain.

any help will be great...as always. Thanks
Mac

I have a 97CC3.9 4x4 with a 5 speed manual trans with 134,000 miles on it and have the same problem. When the truck is under load with a trailer I get a rattle/clatter coming from under the truck. This also happens whenever I am accelerating hard up an overpass. I am 100% positive this is coming from inside the transmission because we are bound to not have the same motor. I have a Jasper rebuilt drop in 3.9L V6. I did have the clatter from the timing chain but that rattle happened all the time and not just while pulling. That is why I have a Jasper motor now. Timing chain broke and took the whole top end of the motor out.

Anybody have a suggestion as to why this truck has a clatter under load?

It almost sounds like my Cat is rattling....neither it or the exaust has ever been worked on, and both are pretty rusted....how does this sound to you guys?

Ya Texan...i have the Original 3.9l in mine...so i doubt its the motor...Im going to replace my Timing chain/gear by the end of Oct...so if i dont figure anything out by then i'll let you know if the noise is gone then....but i doubt it.
thanks
