Message: I have a 2001 Dakota 3.9. I have multiple mods on the truck inclueding a dynomax super turbo cat back, accel coil, taylor 8.2 wires, autolite extreme performance iridium plugs, TB spacer, 5.9L K&N 57-series intake, and a JET Stage-2 performance chip. I was getting 14-16mpg on regular gas, and i changed to premium after getting the Jet chip and now i'm only getting about 10-11mpg. I'm only 16yrs old and can't afford filling the tank every couple days.

Message: I'm glad you started this post.
I just finished a trip to Texas, 1200 miles one way.
I got an average of 21.5
I was hoping for better, but that'll do.

Message: Peter, what yr/model truck do you have? when was the last time your truck had a tune-up? start there with quality parts. also, very overlooked, proper tire inflation and alignment.
i have an '00 QC 3.9 5spd w/3.55's and 235/75/15's. i have gotten a best of 23.5 highway with about 1,000#'s of people and luggage. i usually average around 18-20 combined.
only things i've done: v8 TB, el cheapo turbo muff, removed the clutch fan and the CPS mod. waiting to install my Crower 1.7:1 RR's.

Message: zzark...what mods have you done or have you always gotten that kind of milage?? I've done several mods (CPS, IAT relocate, V8 TB, TPS mod, K&N filter, ram air intake, bed cover), I also have a new cat convert and muffler but those are improvements, not mods. I've gain 1-2 mpg but can't get more than 17 mpg.
BTW...Amsoil guy, please don't reply to this post

Message: I get about 28mpg on adverage. I am mainly highway. I have the MSD 6A, MSD spark plug wires, MSD ss blaster, NGK V-power spark plugs, 180 theromstat from napa, and a V8 throttle body.
My might as well chruck that TB spacer, it could actually be hurting your gas milage! TB spacers only matter on the carb engines.

Click on my dog pix to see my profile.
Very similar to your mods.
I'm now using the NGK v power plugs, not the pos E3.

Message: Mine is an '02 SLT with the 3.9. Mod's that I've done are a Fastman throttle body, synthetic oil, Harland Sharp 1.7's, a K&N drop-in, brass cap & rotor, APP3923's, with a Superchips w/performance settings and burning mid-grade. I haven't had the 1.7's in long enough to really get a good handle on what I'm getting, but right now the computer says I'm getting 18.7. The first third of the last tank was road driving, and I was getting 22.7. The rest has been in-town driving, and the low fuel lamp just came on at lunch. In-town used to be no better than 16-something, and sometimes 15-something - just depended on how heavy my foot was.
I DID note that when I went to mid-grade, my mileage jumped up. Been burning mid-grade for several months now. Where I get my gas, it's only 7 cents higher than 87 - most other places, it's at least a dime and sometimes higher. I usually pump in 15-17 gallons when I fill up, so it's costing me an extra buck and a quarter or so, but at the time that I switched, it gave me an extra couple MPG on the road and the truck runs better.

Message: I'm at 18 mpg and you can check my profile for the mods (165,000 miles) The one thing I haven't done is replace the O2 sensor. I'm the original owner so I need to look at 11 years of records to see if it was ever changed. Mechanic told me it was still good. That might mean it didn't show a bad O2 sensor code. But I'm still not getting anything near 20+.

Message: first thing is unblock the EGR and you do not need
premium with the stage 2 chip
go 87 if no ping stick with it if ping go 89 oct
people do not understand gasoline
premium will egnite at a higher temp and burn
slower if you do not have the timing to run it
it will hurt perf and mileage
reg egnites at a lower temp and burns faster
It is very rare to get ping on a stock computer
with a stage 2 chip and the crank sensor mod I
have done this to many trucks and maybe 1 out
of 50 need to run 89 be sure your o2 sensor
is good NGK.com $45 new NTK NGK same as factory
mopar $108 your paying for the box with the
mopar name on it
