Subject: water pump issues/electric fan questions IP: Logged
Message: Welp, my water pump is going out on my 1995 CC 3.9 with 86k
miles. Judging from the forum i hear that this is usally about the
time they go out. And i also gathered that the clutch fan it puts
more stress on the water pump. Since ill be doing all this work
im considering getting an electric fan while im at it and ditching
the clutch fan.
How many cfm's do i need?
What kits are available with a thermostat sensor?
How difficult is it to wire up? (How do i wire it up in the first
place?)
If i dont get a kit, what parts do i need?
Also, what are your experiences with elec. fans and your daks?
I rarely get stuck in traffic. It can get really hot in the summer
where i live, we had triple digits for a week and a half but I
never use my air conditioner (since it doesnt work...). All things
considered is it worth it to get an electric fan?

Message: Check out flex a lite web site.
I bought their Black Magic 150. Good kit.
I also replaced the water pump at the same time.
Be sure to replace that small hose on top, called the bypass hose.

Message: The permacool 2950 16 or 18" will also work well
just make a couple brackets 4 and mount it right
into the exsisting fan shroud around $100
Also get the flexolite thermo control and 1 30 amp
relay the reg stant 195 will run 185 in these
trucks the 180's most run just a little to cold
The BM 150 is also a good choice but more
expensive
I just turn the fan around on the motor and run
it in rev this places the motor on the rad side
and makes for a very clean instalation also using
the shroud you will not have to make a over flow
bottle mount fan even with end of shround centered
motor out of site
Do not use the straps and mount it directly to
rad they do not hold up
anyway 3000cfm
you can find all these and the best price at
summitracing.com

Message: Tensioner assy-- They do fail.
Pull on the belt, and it should easily spring back.
You can disassemble the tensioner, clean and lube, and see if that helps. That mounting nut was a problem for me. Too tight and the assy won't spring back.
