Well, Thursday I had to use my 94 Dakota CC 4x4 with a 3.9 automatic for something it was never designed for. I blew an engine (which doesn't happen very often with them) in my 1980 International Scout II while I was headed to the Scout Nationals in Southern Ohio. I managed to salvage most of the trip thanks to a friend of mine who was coming down the next day, but at the end of it all I had to get the Scout home, a trip of about 200 miles.
While I was at Scout Nats, I found a heavy towbar for a good price at the main Springfield Swap Meet, so I picked that up...then last Thursday I took a day off work and headed out.
End result was, I got 18 mpg on the Dak going down empty, and about 13 mpg coming back, flat towing a 4,000 lb four wheel drive SUV! I had to lock out OD of course, so that was some of my mileage loss on the way home....but I didn't think that was any too bad for a 150,000 mile 3.9 with a rattling timing chain. And yeah, I've got the new chain, gears and tensioner for it....but it's going to have to wait til I get a new engine in the Scout, since it's the new 'designated plow truck'.
