Hey all,

hopped in my 2000 V6 dak yesterday to get somewhere, and immediately it sounded like the battery was dying. I got some starter clicking, and maybe one or two turns, but no fire. Waited a couple seconds, tried again. Turned over more, then tried to fire but didn't catch. Tried again, got more starter noise, then it turned over and stumbled to life, but died right away. I then put my foot part way on the gas, turned the key, and it stumbled to life. I held my foot there, and once I removed it, the engine would die. While it was running, the voltage looked below 14, but not by much. I could hear the fuel pump pressurizing, so I know it was getting juice. We ended up taking the car...

So last night I check the battery with a VOM. 10.56 volts (engine off).

Thing is, it started off sounding like a dying battery, but then it acted more like a fuel issue. It looks like a fairly old battery, so I'm going to replace it anyway tonight.

Anything else I could look at if the new battery doesn't do the trick? The truck has started without fail in the 3 years I've owned it...so this is very odd behavior.

Thanks!

change the battery and i think you'll be alright. that 10.56 vdc is very low and will wreak havoc with the PCM even if it manages to start.

Yep. I changed the battery last night, and it fired right up and ran perfectly. I'll check the battery with the VOM over the next couple days to be sure it isn't the charging system that's misbehaving.

Thanks!
