Subject: V6 Trans Problems IP: Logged
Message: Just recently my truck will not downshift into 1st gear when driving in D or 2nd. When I'm stopped and shift into 1st gear the truck is very sluggish and lacks power when I hit the gas. If I let up on the gas while in first, the truck comes to an stop and doesn't coast? But truck runs fine in R,D,and 2nd gears, downshifts from D to 2 fine.

Message: I did a Trans Flush about 3-4 Weeks before the problem started. I used Val Syn atf+4, and a few days ago i dropped the pan changed the filter and adjusted the band. Adjusting the band helped a little.

Message: I am the owner of a 1998 dakota extended cab with a 3.9L v-6 and an automatic transmission. I have been having similar problems with my transmission. If I put my truck in drive...it will not take off in 1st gear. The only way that I can get the truck to take off in 1st gear is to manually put it in 1st from park or neutral. Just by feeling...it feels like it is taking off in 2nd gear when manually in 2nd, and 3rd when in drive. I have already drained the tranny fluid, done a filter kit, and added the ATF +4 fluid... I am running out of options on what to do with it...and just dont know the system enough to start ordering solenoids...PLEASE...Let me know of any suggestions... Thanks

Message: 96 and up are RE elect gov pressure control and
very well known for the pressure sensor and sol
going bad
first check all elect conections and ground than
replace both and go from there I have seen it so
many times
dealer only part around $200 you can change them
without droping the valve body out just watch the
orings they do not come with new ones you must
reuse the old ones
this is the first thing we do with the RE's and
99% of the time thats what it is

Message: On my 89 the fill plug is on the drivers left side of the trans case. It's looks like a giant bolt with a torx pattern in the center of it.
Fill until you can just touch the fluid with your pinky in the hole.
