Message: I got a 2003 Dakota Sport v6 auto 2WD yesterday...there is minor front damage (bumper only) and it didnt even break the A/C condenser because the A/C still works...there is another problem in the same general area though and that is overheating, and specifically the coolant comes out of the overflow container cap...i would like to know any and all possible reasons you can come up with why this is happening...thanks, Kevin

Hi Illinut,
I am not a car savy but here is my input. Could be the thermostat or water pump?
You can start by replacing the thermostat. I recall some years ago I had a Ford Ranger that would do the same. I drove the truck for months wandering was was going on, so I replaced the thermostat(actually, I just removed the thermostat and the problem was solved).
Good luck.
Sincerely,
Alonso

Message: Thanks, i went ahead and changed the thermostat and the radiator cap (which isnt actually on the radiator but rather inline in the upper radiator hose and it is a pressure cap) and no more overheating...paid $3,900 for the 2003 Dakota (60,000 miles) as a ebay repo from a local credit union and now i have a good running truck for $3,920...needless to say i am on cloud 9...still have to change a blown head gasket probably due to the previous owner driving it hot but thats another cheap fix...thanks again for the reply, Kevin

Message: Hey Kevin,
Sounds like a pretty good deal for $4k. I am glad you got your truck fixed. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
