Finnaly getting around to putting my 6a box back
on I used a 1977 chrysler lean burn old round oil
filed coil and it runs excellent
claiming upto 5 discharges at lower rpm and the
ability to run a stock coil upto 40,000 volts
the performance increase smother idle and faster
to the redline was very noticeable with all the
mods and the port work on my truck
I had never really installed one after all the
mods were done most installs were done before the
mods and the resaults from the box were not as
pronounced as they were doing the ignition last
The 6a MSD even with a stock coil is a great
ignition upgrade and will help more with the more
mods you have

Message: It's almost plug-n-play. Finding a good place to mount it was the most difficult part for me. I wanted mine to stay relatively cool and free of vibration in order to maximize its life expectancy.

Message: Fed,
I think it took me about 2 hours total to install the MSD in my truck. Like N56629 indicated the hardest part was deciding where to mount it. I have mine mounted on the passenger side fender not far from the computer. I mounted on nylon spacers and longer screws to sort of level it out.

Message: A couple hours
big red to batt pos
big black to ground on motor or batt is the best
orange coil + black coil -
white to coil wire on truck minus grey
red to coil wire on truck pos grey with org stipe
You can check these wires by removing the fuel
pump relay with a volt meter
plus steady volts
- fluctuate up and down
while cranking
The white wire turns the box on there is no draw
until activated
when I went to the parts shelf there was no 8207
coil there so I used the old chrysler coil now
I have an 8207 SS Blaster on there and you can
feel the hotter spark
Thats all there is to it on your obd1 on the 2's
most will need the tach adapter or they will
throw coil circuit codes
Think I got the colors right there in the
instructions also
plug gap instructions say upto 10.5 to 1 comp
.050 to .060
MSD techs say .015 to .020 over factory specs
With the NGK I am running at .050 right now
obd1 is .035 so I will be going more they run
great between .050 .060 every truck is a little
diff just see what works best for you
I usualy use the halo's but there was no 15's
left on the parts shelf ether
also use 1 colder plug like the autolite 3923
or the NGK FR5 the NGK's do run better than
the autolite $2.25 ea autolites $.99 walmart
The MSD is an excellent system and runs very well
on the mag motors as far as reliability the only
failure I have seen was my own an 8207 coil but
I went threw a car wash 1 day and it was missing
a few weeks latter it went out found the pos and
signal wires got wet and were jumping to each
other
1 other thing is index the plugs at 12 o clock
open end aimed up at the valve cover some say
this does nothing some say it does I say with
the hot ign system it does all the flame fronts
will be the same I just spent 2 hours doing this
yesterday I know one thing for sure they idle
smother when indexed
You can buy a plug indexing kit it has all diff
thickness washers to use what I do is file a
line in the cap that I can feel with my finger
nail than I just use washers off diff plugs until
I get them aimed up it takes some time and a few
choice words to do
Have fun

Message: Larry,
I hooked up the 6A box according the instructions for
the late model dodge with 2-pin connector
what is not clear in the instructions is if you
splice into the wires or do you cut the wire and
leave one end loose and the other connected to the
box... i tried leaving the wires loose but the truck
wont start
please help
thankyou

Message: Gap the NGK FR 4 or 5 at .055 this is where we
are getting the best resaults
Autolite 3923 .060
The resistor NGK is what I figure causes this
.050 low end drop
.060 same thing
.055 ran perfict with the NGK
