Subject: Dent in Y-Pipe = new exhaust IP: Logged
Message: found that theres a pretty good sized dent in my Y-pipe..
that means im gonna SEE how much it is to get
new piping installed from the end of the
stock headers all the way over the axle,
Question is... what size should i go with?
i was told 2.5" is the best width for the 3.9,
im gonna buy the dynomax 17748 super turbo
muffler to go with it
one thing though, my engine should be producing
at LEAST 230 horsepower and 300 ft. lbs. of
torque when its put together so i dont know if
i should go with wider piping or not cuz of that.
your thoughts are greatly appreciated

Message: I was always told to go with a 3" pipe and get the y-pipe done while your at it, not too sure what size to make the y-pipe but it increase your power.

Message: I don't know about the v6 but the v8 y-pipe comes stock with a pretty good size clearance dent. The y-pipe is probably the single best mod to your exhaust you can make. Two and half-inch exhaust should be sufficient for 230 hp. The only thing the larger diameter will do is change the tone of the exhaust.

Message: Stick with the 2.50 inch piping. Any larger will take away bottom end power and move it up the rpm range.

Message: yes 2" but the outlet were they come togather
should be 2.5 and 2.5 all the way back muff and
cat also 2.5
were the y goes into the system cant be 2" thats
way to small
the 92 93 were 3"
I would call JBA and ask them about this unless
summit just listed it wrong they had to because
you would have to go from 2 ti 2.5 to hook up
Yes lowering the back pressure will drop the
low end power unless your getting more in to the
motor
however if your porting running nitrious or boost
and running higher rpm than you want all the
flow you can get

Message: but what if i wanted 3" all the way back would i go with a 2.25 pipe to the y-pipe and then make that to the 3"?!

Message: 2.25 and 3" will give you more top end power and
on a motor with more work done will not effect
it much
more flow porting exct will off set this
I have them setup both ways the only noticeable
diff is a little stronger top end with the
bigger pipe if the intake side is improved its
fine
