Subject: No spark no fuel IP: Logged
Message: 1990 Dak. 3.9, automatic. No codes. Went to start it and there was no spark, no fuel. I do hear a click from the fuel tank area 1-2 seconds after the ket is turned on. Not sure if it's anything to do with the problem though. Can't find the ASD relay (shutoff relay)to check it. Drove fine before parking it.
Could a crank sensor do this? Where is the shutoff relay? Could it be the computer?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Message: 90 don,t have a crank sensor,
check the positive wire on the coil with a volt meter, should have 12volts when cranking over the motor, you,ll need a second person for this,if find
change the pick up coil in the dist.this controls when to fire and gives a signal for the fuel pump to run

i dont know much about the 1990 but if it has the under hood fuse box a good place to look would be the famous wire splice

Yes, there is no fuse-relay box under the hood. Just 4 relays. One is for the starter. One is for the fog lamps. Not sure what the other two do. I bypassed the two relays using a jumper wire and still no fuel or spark.
Battery is fully charged.
I read about a splice somewhere near the relays that could do the same thing. Where exactly is this splice?
The distributor was replaced about a year ago. That doesn't mean the hall effect isn't bad though. How do you test it?

Message: FIXED! Corrosion at splice. This splice was just below the relays. Two wires (red w/white tracers) went into one side of a yellow shrink wrapped connection. The other side had a pale tan wire comming out. There was no power to the number 3 terminal at the computer. Traced back to the splice. Power at the larger red wire, nothing at the smaller red wire. Tugged on small red wire and it popped out of the connector. Green corrosion all over inside the connector. Repaired connection and it started right up. Now have codes 41 (I think) and 42.
So many times people ask for help, but never let us know how the problem was fixed. I hope what I found helps someone else. Took less than 5 minutes to repair once I received a wiring diagram.
I love electrical problems. Easy to fix when you have a wiring diagram, except when a technician is pushing to replace the computer. My experience is that computers rarely fail. This is a great example of a tech guessing at the problem. In fact, he first pushed replacing the hall effect, then the computer. Not so sure he liked that I found it so quickly.
No sure what point I'm trying to make other than it's ok to not agree with a tech.
