Subject: poor idle IP: Logged
Message: On my 2001 Dakota 3.9, It does not seem to
respond well to changes in gear position (P to R or N to D) or A/C
request at idle speeds. It has nearly stalled a couple of times.
I removed the IAC, cleaned it and the passage in the throttle body.
Didn't seem to help. The only other thing I noticed is that it chugs a
little (like the choke is on) on cold startup.
Anybody out there with these issues?

Message: I had a similar problem with my 90 Dak. Along with starting problems and shifting into gear mine would stall intermittantly when I came to a stop. The problem I had was the hall effect was loose. The rivets were not holding the hall effect in one place. I used marine epoxy to hold it still for a few days until a new distributor arrived. Ever since then it hasn't acted up at all.
One other thing I'll mention is the tps may have moved. I think this would cause an overall performance problem though.

Message: My Dad works for a Dodge dealer in Georgia, I just run the Keyboard for him. This is what he says. It is possible that there is a flash for the engine controller to cure this problem. If you can email me a part number of the controller. We'll research it. Let us know.

Message: get a scan and check the IAT and engine temp
sensor if they read cold it will run rich like
the choke is on as you say
also a vac leak
the modern mechs should be requiered to buy a
vac guage it is one of the oldest and most
reliable things to have and check a motor with
the map reading will tell you vac but they can
be bad there is a test port on drivers side
just about right in the midle of the intake
pop a guage on it and see what you have
18 to 20 normal
it could be many things but check this first
bad plugs, wires, cap rotor coil, low fuel
pressure leaky injector
the plugs are your window to the motor see what
they look like should all be a light tan color
black to much fuel white lean
low volts bad battery will also cause probs like
this
time to start checking these things 1 at a time

Message: I had the same problem with my 95 Duhkota.
Replaced TBS, IAC, plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
Didn't fix it till I remembered my old 86 GMC pickup did the same thing and the problem was the EGR valve.
Replaced it and the truck runs great now.
Live and learn.
