Subject: New motor no fuel pressure IP: Logged
Message: OK guys I went home checked the fuzes and the relays even swaping the relays out. nothing!!!!! when i turn the key to on i here a cople of clicks and no hum. I guess my next step is to see if power is getting to the fuel pump. My luck it died on me. the trucks got 176,000 on it. im not looking forward to trying to get at the fuel pump. I know that every body says to just unbolt the bed, but i live in ohio and have never gotten a bed off without a bluewrench. any thoughts? mike

Message: Does the "check engine " light come on when you turn key to ON ?
If not check ground wire to bracket at back of
alternator ?
What year is truck ? Is fusebox/relay box under
hood on drivers side ? If so check the wiring harness under it -=-there is probably a splice
about 8 to 12 inches down the harness of 3 wires
Redo this 'splice' ,especially if you see any
green "corrosion" on the wires in this.

Message: The splice may be bad check the spark while
cranking if no spark no fuel its the splice
be sure you take coil wire off dist cap not coil
to check as I have seen some do and tell me there
is no spark hold about 1/2 to 1" from ground
and crank
On the pump I have also run into more bad splices
farther back by the firewall down to trans there
is another that powers pump and 02 and speed
sensor this one is a real PIA
first unplug pump connection you will have to have
someone crank engine and see if its getting power
if not its the second requires undoing the harnass
cover to find this one as I said a real pain in
the A$$
I have 1 guy who got so pissed he ran a wire
direct with a switch to run the pump instead of
undoing the harness to find it, a fast solution
If there is power put your ear right on the tank
have someone turn key on off and you will hear it
run for about 2 secs
You can undo the fill neck and straps and lower
the tank to change but get the master pump around
$200 it has new pump filter and guage sender all
in one

Message: About 2 years ago I had to replace the pump in my 93. Advance Auto Parts had the IDENTICAL OEM Carter pump/sender unit. The problem is that I notice the price has doubled since then.
If you end up having to change out the pump, consider pulling off the left rear wheel to gain additional access to the hose and wire connections (over the top of the frame rail). I realized that AFTER I had it pretty much all back together.
Good luck.
