 Subject: rear end ratio

How can I find out what my rear end ratio is? I can't find it anywhere. Someone said its in the glove box but its not. I have a 92 Dak, 3.9L V6 with club cab and auto trans. Can I tell from the vin #, please help. Whats better for gas milage? A higher ratio like 4.10 or a low one like 3.55.

There should be a metal tag attached to the axle.
If not, take your VIN to the parts dept at the dealer. They can give you a printout of all the options on your truck.

Jack-up your rear, w/ truck in nuetral, mark drive shaft, rotate both wheels and count how many times it rotates per wheel revolution.
3 1/4 turns= 3.23's
3 1/2 turns= 3.55's
just under 4 turns= 3.92's
just over 4 turns= 4.10's
it's a pain in the butt, but it works and you'll need four hands to turn both wheels at the same time. Try it, it works.........

as a general rule
Higher # 4.10's performance
Lower # 3.23's gas milage
3.55's common ( that's what my '00 has)
3.92's are what I'm planning on.( 3.92's came w/ factory tow pkg "I think")..

Yup the factory tow package came with 3.92's on the '00. At least mine did.

The "sticker info" at least was probably on
the underside of the hood - that is where they
put it on the older trucks..
Otherwise as above..

mine came with 3.90's at least thats wat it sayss on the tag on the pumpkin. but mine didnt come with towing crap. wtf

ftheabus - The factory tow package definitely did not come with 3.92 gears, it is merely coincidence that this is what you have. My '00 came with 3.55. These two options (tow & gear) are independent of each other.

most of the tow packages came with a 3.91 sure

Like our local dealer they put a class A hitch on
and say the truck has a tow package but its bull
most also came with an axsilary trans cooler
