Subject: V8 throttle plates IP: Logged
Message: I have a V8 throttle body on my V6 dakota. The throttle plates are in bad shape, ragged and uneven edges. The idle is rough and the throttle sticks. DOes anyone know where I can get the throttle plates (50mm) without getting the whole throttle body??? I'd like to replace the throttle plates without getting another throttle body.

Message: I had the same problem and I bet those plates would be just a pain in the rear to replace. The stock plates are a really soft metal (aluminum?) and honestly I wouldn't think it would be worth replacing. If you still have your V6 throttle body, do yourself a favor like I did and get a reworked Fastman one. The craftmanship is excellent and worth every penny, plus its a well noticed gain in hp.

Message: I should have a set around. $20 including shipping.
I'm a bit puzzled as to how a throttle plate can get "in bad shape, ragged and uneven edges."

Either that or something is getting sucked into the engine and beating them on the way in!
While you are waiting for new ones to get to you, why don't you just take the old ones off and clean them up with a file?

Message: I would make sure to use a little lock-tite when you reinstall your tb plates, you wouldn't want your screws to vibrate loose and get sucked in to your engine.

Message: You never have to worry about screws or most anything else getting "sucked into your engine." You could throw a whole hand full of screw into the intake manifold and the likelihood that any of them will reach the engine is a million to one. It's not that it's a bad idea to loctite the screw, that just isn't the reason for doing it.
