Subject: v6tb to v8tb IP: Logged
Message: okay i went out and bought a 50mm tb from F&B, now i dont understand something! people say that you need a cable for a v8 cause the cable is different, yet the weird thing is, the cable seems like it will be long enough. cause if i pull the cable out and place it where it would be on the v8tb it seems to reach with no problem. Am i just stupid or will my cable work, i gotta 2003 3.9l Dakota.

Message: Length has nothing to do with it. If the cable end fits the tb then you don't need to replace it.

If not, then yes, you are stupid.

Message: The difference is in the end of the cable where it attaches to the TB. v6 mounts on a ball stud/ v8 disk stud. I don't know if the F&B's are corected so to not have to swap cables. Pop the cable off the v6 and see if the stud mount matches the the F&B's
Hope that helps.......Gears

Match the years and you will come up with the right cable.

my v8 tb looks like the v8 type 2. will that throttle body work on a '99 truck? (something about the EGR yadda yadda is in my head)

Message: You probably have the EGR type but it's hard to tell without looking at it. You would have to get the correct cable for it to work on a 99, which would probably have the type one cable if it is a v6.

Message: The 99 doesn't have an egr. If your tb is an egr type it will have one tiny hole in the side of each throttle bore just above the throttle plates. The egr type tb has to be modified to give the correct vaccum signal.

Message: 92 to 95 egr
96 up no egr
the 50mm is to big for the V6 should go with the
48mm
The 50mm plates with the V6 48mm bore do not
work well low end loss
just open them to 50mm and do some more work to
the motor like the 1.7 than it will work but the
step under the 50mm plate is not good

Message: how does one know if a tb is 48 or 50mm?
is measuring it the only way, or is there a year by year thing with this too?

Message: All throttle bodies on the dodge trucks are made
by holly
All V8 bodies have 50mm plates with a 48mm torque
step
Now the V6 year make or modle makes no diff
46mm with 44 step this is a rare one
44mm with 42 step
42mm with 40 step
the only way to tell which you have is to mesure
All V8 intakes 50mm bore
All V6 intakes 48mm bore
