Hey I have about 3+ inches in play when driving. When Im on the highway its loose and I would like to tighten it up. If I climb under my truck its tight all the way to the steering box. Is there an adjustor screw on those boxes or would I need to drop the box out of the truck and open the whole box up to tighten it, or is my box bad? Its a 1994 Dodge Dakota 4x4 3.9L
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You have a recirculating ball steering box. There is a hex nut around a 'sticking up' (technical, huh?) nut you turn to tighten things up.

FIRST!
Be sure everything else is tight.

Second, find thee instructions.

Ok, I have a question to add to this. I foobed my steering during hurricane Rita last year. Namely, I was backing up in 4WD and hit a large limb with the front passenger tire. Now my steering gear box is leaking to beat the band. Do I need to rebuild the whole thing or is it just the two seals on the outside? How hard is this to do and what if any special tools will I need to accomplish this?

FYI
I have play aplenty in my steering and the wheel sits off level to the left a bit when I am going straight.
