Subject: Superchips and Electric fan??? IP: Logged
Message: It will be my birthday this Friday and I was wondering if Superchips and an electric fan would really give me a noticeable amount of power? If so what kind of gains will I be looking at? What would be the best power gain for the same amount of money?
Here is a list of my mods so far: 10” Edelbrock Air Cleaner w/ 3” tall KNN filter, V8 TB, 180 degree, Taylor Made 8mm spark wires, Autolite 3923 plugs, Flowmaster Super 40 that dumps before rear axle, Custom hood, and scoop tray. Also what do you think is my HP w/ the list of mods here?
Here is a link of the fan I plan on buying:

Thanks in advance!!!

Message: I'd do the fan first - no cost. I did the Superchips thing about a month ago, and was disappointed in the 87 octane setting. I was looking for mileage improvements, and really didn't see any. Then I went to 89 octane and changed the setting to "performance", and the mileage improved as well as the performance - with no pinging AND it got rid of the aggravating downshifting that it was doing on every little hill. I'm still wondering whether it was worth the $300 or not, but have to admit I'm a lot happier with the truck since I did it.

Message: I've had the Superchips on my truck for about a year and a half. If you want to be happy with it, you really gotta be willing to fork out for premium gas and run it in the high performance setting. I use it anyway in my truck so it wasn't an issue to me. Before I got the Superchips I had an Airaid intake, F&B 48mm TB, and catback exhaust, so that gave the superchips a good platform to work off of. I'm thinking about putting in an electric fan for the hell of it. When you do the fan can you post the results?

Message: Yeah, I've seen several of them on here do that. I'm chicken! I'm afraid that the electric that came on it won't move enough air. But, they say you can get several HP just by doing that.

Message: Gears, i've been running my '00 QC 3.5/ 5sp around for about 2 yrs without the fan & clutch and have had no problems at all. if you want to, you can buy an adjustable thermo switch(about 20 bucks) and wire it to control the temp the stock fan comes on.
the factory has the switch to turn the fan on @ 210. i have had mine idling for 30-45 minutes with the a/c on and not even get to 210. it normally runs around 195-200 with a 195 thermostat.

Message: Hmmm...thoughts are a runnin now. How much city driving do you do? Since I got stationed and am in a bigger city now my temp goes up to about 200 most of the time. I'm thinkin about putting my 180 tstat back in just because of that reason. I've been thinking of dumping the clutch and getting an electric, but if I can get away from the second fan that'd be good. Save a few $.

Message: Adam, most of my driving is urban. you could go with the 180 tstat. if you remove the clutch fan, you could just keep it in the bed of your truck for a while until you feel safe.

Message: summitracing.com
they have the 16" permacool 2950cfm 8 to 10 amp
draw they mount right into the fan shroud nicely
with 4 brackets from fan to shroud $100 its what
I am running also get a flexolite direct read
thermo control and you can set it to come on
where ever you want and I have yet to see 1 fail
I have mine set on 188 off 185 it only runs in
town or going slow or idleing over like 30 its
off even on the 94 degree day we had here
but I do have the 2 row 318 radiator from
radiator barn . com $138 comes with line adpt
kit so your trans plugs right in the V6 came with
bare minimum 1 row rad
Be cool the elect fan will help both mileage and
power like 5 to 10 hp over the clutch fan
