Subject: Anyone running a supercharger?

Well, I have done the 1.7 Harland Sharp RR's, and did the intake gasket match and porting, as well as installed a Fastman 46 mm TB, and the Crank sensor mod,and relocated the IAT and installed a drop-in K&N filter. I also installed a Dynomax 17748 muffler. I used the 3715 Superchips programmer and that worked O.K., but running premium gas is getting very expensive. I want to return back to the stock PCM setting and bolt on a Supercharger. My rear gears are 3.55 and I like that ratio for all around driving. I see KRC Performance has one for around $3700.00. Who has any experience with the Supercharger on the 3.9 and what type of plugs, fuel and other things do I need to know about it. I want more power to pull and the truck is a daily driver, not a racer. I want dependable power that will run in the cold Canadian winter and the hot summer. Do I need more exhaust mods?, cam? or can a basically stock motor be supercharged and be dependable. I appreciate any help on this.

I have customers running s/c's on all the mag
motors

The vortech s/c kit comes with everything you
need to install the unit icluding a fmu fuel
managment unit and an external pump under
boost it will raise fuel presure to add more
fuel while under boost also has a boost guage
a crane ignition all fittings everything you
need it truly is a bolt on unit

The only thing with the V6 is the converter
this is not nessasary to change but the high
stall they use in most of the 4x4's has a
stall of 1200rpm over the 2 wheel 900 stall
it helps because there is a small amount of
paricitic loss at low rpm on the 6 under
around 1400 to 1600rpm this will solve
this loss or if your really into it there are
1800 and 2200rpm stall converters

If you have a stick you need not worrie at all

Frm what we have seen the s/c adds power from
1800 2000 rpm starting with a peak gain on the
6 around 60 to 75hp at the wheels

yes its a nice improvement

You will need a bigger throtle body and the 1.7
rockers to get the full benifit of the s/c port
match and head port clean up and polish also
helps with the s/c you want all the flow you can
get just clean and polish heads remove bumps
and casting leavings but remove as little material
as posible taking to much on the 6 will drop
low end very fast

The stock computer will also run with the s/c

Thanks for the info Larry, looks like I will be ordering the set-up. I already have done the intake and head port cleanup and have the Fastman 46 mm TB plus the HS 1.7 rockers so it looks like all should work just fine.

Here is a question about the S/C on a v6, is it absolutely paramount that you run 8.5:1 compression ratio, or can one use a 9:1 compression. I don't understand why 8-8.5:1 is the max on a supercharged vehicle. Thanks a lot

Maybe Supercharger first, that way you can get to the store and back faster after you get your TV?

the stock 9.2 to 1 compression runs fine with the
s/c the setup comes with a boost retard incase
you run into bad gas the controls will retard
timing if set at 1 it will retard 1 degree for
every pound of boost 5psi 5 degree retard on
timming at 2 5psi it would be 10 they work well

the 360 vortech setup we did on a 94 ram is running 10.5 to 1 with a perf comp with a vaper
injector set at 0 on the retard with out the
injection which basicly runs windshield washer
fluid that is metenal than it needs to be set at
1 or it will ping and this is running 8psi boost

THanks Larry,

I was considering putting a S/C on the V6, and running 10.3:1 pistons, but I'm still considering doing the stroker kit as well. Just trying to get all of the research done and make the most economical decission, while getting the performance I want.
