Message: I'm pulling a 3,000 pound trailer through the Texas heat. The truck is doing great. Pulls well and isn't overheating.
I get about 20.5 mpg when not towing.
I don't have enough info to give a good idea of the mileage while towing. I'll post it later.

Message: Id have to agree great truck.
Everytime im fed up with the mpg and off idle bog to the point of feeling motivated in doing a v8 swap my truck goes and does something that makes me reconsider.
I guess ill put down my story here as well.
Pulled 10,000 lbs of cattle trailer through hilly Montana interstate at 90 F. I forgot to reinstall my clutch fan and only peaked in temp at 5/8 into the gauge i turned on the heater for only a few long hills of the 50 mile trip. I could take hills at a max of 45 mph without a running start.
For that trip i recieved 6 mpg. My average with an empty truck was 13 mpg but since then i found a miss adjusted idle that when set right increased mpg to 14 and a vaccum leak that will be fixed soon.
Not bad for a 4x4 3.9 v6 quad cab with homemade intake, bored tb, port matched manifold, homemade muffler, 180 stat, 1.7 RRs, 4.10 gears, and msd CD ignition.

Message: Just looked at the Tacoma V6 5-speed automatic, to advertise the discount buying program at Costco.
For $20,000 you can have a Toyota that does everything your Dakota already does.

Message: Pulling 3k lbs can effect your mileage alot. It depends on the profile of the trailer. A pop-up camper will have a lot less drag then say a standard full height trailer of the same weight. A fairing or a air damm on the roof will improve airflow, and help mpg. But all in all it sounds like your truck will pull strong for you.
