 Subject: Porting and Boring?

I really want to get more power out of my little 6 and porting it is on my list of to do's. My question is what kind of power am I looking to get out these mods and which route should I go?

Do lots of porting and boring. You will get tons of horsepower. Don't forget to stroke your engine too.

porting will give you 5hp and up depending on how much you port it. And you can hurt your motor by porting if you dont do it right. So study up. And if you are going to bore it out just do .030. It gets you the displacement you want but doesnt take away from reliability. Stroking will add a bunch more torque which is great for driveability. But you have to think you are putting in a lot of money into a 6 when you can get an 8 and do some little upgrades and get tons more power. A completely worked 3.9L you are looking at 250hp at the wheels. You can build a 5.2 or 5.9 to have 400 easy.

Unless you plan on nitrious, s/c or turbo the
heads only need to remove some bumps and
casting leavings and polish removing as little
material as posible
On the V6 the low end will drop off real fast
just porting a little to much just a clean up
and polish is all that is nessasary
some of the blocks are to thin to go .030 over
you will get thin spots on the cyl not good
.020 over is more like it
you can mill the heads .020 and raise the comp

My whole plan is to make a V6 that runs with the 8s. So I am going to port, bore, install NOS, chip, headers, and a new Throttle Body. I have already installed exhuast, intake and other bolt ons and I hope to get at least 250 HP out of all this and if all els fails I will Turbo it.

if you want 250hp+ you better plan on either stroking, forced induction or both. Larry, (the guy that posted above your last) is the guy to go to for advice on 250hp or more.
