Not alot has been done yet. I got a 50mm throttle body coming, new fuel injectors, and i got this undercrank pulley sitting here off the to the side. looking to get better gas milage off that stuff with better performance. I am getting the 50mm throttle body now cause i am going to cam this thing soon. Also i probably get good milage then most people cause i am mainly highway! I drive back and forwth to chicago on a regluar basis and i am about 32 miles north of there.

Message: id figured i add this since everyone wants better gasmilage. heres 10 things you can do to save gas cost effectivly. 1. Change your dirty lube oil, dirty lube or imporper oil weights can reduce performacne, impede engine operation, and reduce fuel economy by 2%. 2.Check your tire pressure according to the US Dept of energy properly inflated tires can improve fuel efficiency by up to 3%. 3.Use the correct octane if you are blessed with a low compression NA motor, you can save major bucks just by buying lower octane. 4. Perform a wheel alignment, this draws engine during operation. 5. Remove excess weight, your life possessions dont belong in your car. Remove them and any annoying passengers and you can save up to 2% of gas for every 100lbs.(soo maybe you should put that cheese down too....HAHAHA j/k) 6.Change your spark plugs, cap and rotor, this can earn you up to 4% of fuel economy cause your not burning all the gas in the cynder. 7.Clean your fuel injectors, keep them pulsing so your engine doesnt have to work harder. 8.Change your air filter / clean it regualary. 9. Check your 02 sensor, a faulty 02 sensor can claim up to 40% of your fuel. #10!!!! this is the easist of them all. Dont drive like a jackass. I know this one is hard to do at times but DONT DRIVE LIK A JACKASS! That lead foot at every stop light can cost you up to 33% of fuel.
Those are just some inexpensive suggestions.

Message: I just went on a long trip, from Orange County to Tahoe and back. I kept track of my mileage and gas receipts so that I would know my mpg. I traveled a total of 1138.8 miles and used 40.749 gallons of gas. That gave me a total mpg of 17.666. Not bad, I think, for a truck loaded down with camping equipment, an open bed, air conditioning working overtime and a passenger.
Doing this experiment raised my curiousity and I continued it when I got back home. I have been getting roughly 15.5 mpg since I returned to my regular commute.
My truck is stock, an '02 Dakota, 4x2 with a V6.

Message: ibejeph,
Keep the needle on the low side of 65 MPH mark and you'll get better mileage then just on the high side of the mark.
Your truck came from the plant with synthetic oil. If you continued using synthetic oil, you may do like me and go almost 100,000 miles before getting your best mileage.

Message: Dakzilla,
22.5 is darn good. At the best I get. Yay, for you.
I used 50 weight oil until it was explained that it doesn't lubricate better and may even prevent teensy sprayers from cooling the bottom of pistons, etc.
I also got 3 MPG better mileage on my Sonoma, when I switched.
My 3.9 has always used 0W-30 oil, so I have no idea if you'll see a MPG improvement, so, let us know, if you change.

Message: I got a '96 3.9L, 5 spd RC, short bed. I'm getting a bit over 20mpg. It improved some after changing exhaust, and taking out the little plastic flap in front of the air tube going to the air cleaner housing (gotta take off grill, to get to), kinda makes it a hillbilly ram air... I guess. I changed the exhaust, cause my cat was rattling, and broken up inside restricting flow. Found a Hedman high flow, changed the muffler to Flowmaster. Made the mistake of using the sawzall on a rusted out exhaust system, also had to replace the busted clamps the saw caused.
