93 dakota LE v6 AT, 102000 mi., camper shell.
At about 92000 mi, trip from Wisconsin to Virginia AVERAGED 32 mpg at steady 65 mph, fully loaded to max weight limit. That's up and down mountains, too.
Course, around town (which is where I do most of my driving now) I only get about 13.
No problems with calculation, either: I set the tripmeter to let me know when to fill up because the gauge bounces around so crazily.

Now - where's the O2 sensor in this thing???

I usually got around 17mpg city/highway during the school year. but this summer i got a job at a grocery store, and well... working there makes me damn hungry. so on the way home im kinda driving like a jackass so i can get some food in my belly. well, i only fill my tank enough to calculate mpg from a 1/4 of a tank, so it might not be so accurate. anyways, ive gone through 2 1/4 tanks and.... i got about 80-90 miles out of them. thats about 21mpg average. ive tried driving like an old man and got around 18mpg. but im thinking i should drive more like a teenage girl who thinks she has a fast car if it gets me 21 mpg. i think it goes with the "short hard accel. vs. long slow accel." theory. 5 seconds of hard acceleration is better than 15 seconds of light acceleration (somethin like that).

1995 Regular Cab Dakota with custom fiberglass bedcover, 5 speed, 3.9 v6, v8 throttlebody with air horns ground off and polished, msd 6a ignition, ngk v power plugs, msd wires, performnace pcm, crank sensor mod, tps mod set at .8 volts, jba headers and y pipe, custom hood scoop to dump cold air into K and air filter with the extreme lid. This truck runs like a bat out hell. I can easily peg the speedometer. When I drive like old granny smith down the street, I get 25 mpg in town and 30 mpg on the freeway. I am running a custom made water/alochol injection system to prevent pinging while running 89 octane gas otherwise I must run premium. Out in Cali, in can be pretty expensive, like 3.50 a gallon.

Man I wish I could get close to that on gas. I just got back from a trip UT to TX and I only got between 17-19 mpg. I really wish I could get about 25mpg.

01MEDak,
My 98 3.9 automatic didn't get it's best mileage until 100,000 miles. I average high 18's to 19's.
Came from the factory with synthetic oil and has always used Amsoil, so maybe it took that long to break-in.

I have a turbocharged intercooled 4 cylinder regular cab 95 dakota, 5 speed, bore out throttlebody, MSD 6AL with a timing retard boost system, ported and polished head, headers, customed built air intake, running a 75 nitrous shot. This truck will do a 14.0 quarter mile. The truck has a xtang bed cover and will get 25 mpg around town and 35 mpg when economy driving. This ain't half bad for a 4 cylinder dak!!!

I managed 16mpg with a 2wd Dakota 3.9 auto with a blown IOD fuse and a plugged cat, mixed city/short hwy.

I'm doing a little better with the fuse in ( much more power ) and I hope to see a lot more power after the cat is replaced, including better mileage.
