Subject: V6 exhaust IP: Logged
Message: So today I went out and got a nice chrome exhaust tip put on. Looks sweet. I was always againt getting a new muffler because I had a Pontiac Firebird V6 with exhaust and it sounded really raspy above 300 RPMs.
Is there a muffler out there that will give me a good rumble without sounding like a lawnmower at higher RPMs?
I have heard decent things about the dynomax superturbo 17748.
What does everyone here have and how does it sound?
Anyone have straight pipes?
Let me know...Thanks

Message: yeah the 17748.... it will sound alittle quiet form the beginning but as time passes the dynomax mufflers open up and will sound good.... not overly loud and raps good during acceleration and has no horrible drone at highway speeds....

Message: Sorry...I used to have a 1993 pontiac firebird v6 with a dynomax superturbo and it would be raspy above 3000.

Message: Dont get Dynomax. Get a Flowmaster 40, a little more expensive but a much nicer sound.

Message: I have a 18" glasspack muffler just ahead of the 17748 so it takes some of the raspy noise out of it. It does not rap, is not raspy and is not real loud. Real nice at highway cruisin' speed and a good idle sound, nothing too loud and unbearable. I like it a lot.

Message: The dynomax and the flowmaster 50 are almost
identical in sound the flowmaster being just
a little deeper sounding
The 40 series is loud
I always ran the dynomax 11748 with a factory
mandrell tail good sound and performance
If you want to spend a little more money
truckperformance.com has the pacesetter prediter
dual for $289 shiped this system used to list
for like $459
I have one one my 95 4x4 and it sounds great
took 3 weeks to get came with 2 1/2 inlet
and the 2 1/4 tails with polised stainless
tips cant beat the price actually seams to add
some low end off idle power right threw mid
range computer designed for better flow
sounds more like a V8

Message: So basically I have narrowed it down to Flowmaster 50, dynomax 17748, glasspacks, or straight pipe. Which of these sounds the least like a lawnmower/ricer at higher RPM's?
Thanks!!!

Message: I put a 50 series flowmaster on my 99 Dakota. Now I would have gone with the 40 but I was afraid I would sound like one of those angry bumble bee sounding import "race cars". But it really comes down to personal prefrence. I replaced the cat with a high flow into the flowmaster then dualed from there.
