So whats the consensus? What's the recommended gasket sealer to use and where when assembling a long block? Last time I put RTV on the intake gaskets only around the water jackets, and after pulling the head I see that I had water intrusion into the cylinder from the intake gasket. Should I use RTV on both side and around every port of the intake? I used the brown hard set cement on the intake ends seals and it seemed to work well.

Is my message poorly worded, or are we a generation of blister pack goodies assembled by our local mechanic?

I use RTV Black on both sides of gasket surfaces other than intake/exhaust manifold gaskets. On the Intake manifold ,exhaust manifold gaskets, I use a copper impregnating type spray made by permatex. I have never had a leak.

If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks...well...it needed to be replaced anyway.

throw your hard set gasket sealant out, you might as well smack the surface with a hammer.
