i was thinking about buying a cold air intake for my 2001 dakota club cab shortbed 3.9. the air raid intake seems to be the only one available and its about 200$, which seems like a reasonable price. also i was thinking about getting the air raid throttle body spacer to go with it. does anyone have this setup on their truck, and if so, is it really worth it? right now my only mod is a dynomax 3" catback... which by the way sounds really good, and i would reccommend it. anyway, i would appreciate some input.

thanks.

If you don't mind spending the money, go for the CAI (you can make one for less from plumbing supplies), but DO NOT buy the TB spacer, on our "beer keg" style intake manifolds, they do NO good.
As for the CAI, you will notice quicker throttle response, a little more low and high end power, and IF you can keep your foot out of it, better MPG

If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks...well...it needed to be replaced anyway.

yea, i heard that a TB spacer wouldnt do any good on my truck, but i just wanted to hear it again before i could accept the fact that i couldnt spend 89$ on a worthless piece of metal.

TB Spacers are a gimmic, they do nothing except add a whistle at a 1/4 throttle. Worst buy I ever made, should have bought a 5.2L throttle body

Ryan,,
I've got one of those 89$ pieces of metal laying around on the work bench,It'll make your intake whistle when you mash on it, it sounds cool anyway. Hell,, I'll let you have it for 5$ plus shipping if you want to give it a try. I've also got a v6 hand ported & polished TB, that you can have for 20$.Try doing a search on make your own CAI, or you can get parts and pieces from most chain auto part store like Pep Boys.
( I upgraded to a v8 TB). Think about it & let me know.

i have a 1-inch TB spacer and have no whistle noise at 1/4 throttle or at full throttle plus its grooved which i made into it so it makes a vortex funnel of air flowing into the motor... in my case it hasnt made anything worse it actually made improvements in gas mileage plus i have a V8 TB thats ported and polished to 52mm on my 3.9 and i just installed the harland sharp 1.7 roller rockers few weeks ago and things i noticed is less down shifting and that slight stumble the 3.9's have at idle is gone.... now i have a second spacer that im drilling a hollow passage into it for the acceptance of CO'2 chilling and drilling for NOS injection that is going to be tested on a storker 3.9 my cousin has in his 98 dakota... the stroker is built off what larry had posted plus a few more mods of balancing the crank and block bore....

well i dont think im gonna do anything too complicated like drilling out TB'S. i think i'll just stick with the air raid intake and no TB spacer since i figured it would just be a waste of money anyway.
