Subject: 93 dakota won't crank IP: Logged
Message: 1993 v6 dodge dakota 2wd...drove approximately 15 miles this morning and vehicle cranked and drove fine with no indication of pending problems ie check engine etc. i stopped and when i tried to crank back up, it would not crank and i found that there was no fire. i tried another coil and coil wire but still no fire. checked fuses in box under hood and under dash and all appeared ok. when i turn key on i have the check engine light and the abs light. i cleaned the rotor and distributor cap as best i could also.

Message: Is your problem that the engine won't crank (the starter doesn't turn the engine), or that the engine won't run?

Probably the infamous splice in the wiring bundle between the battery and relay box. Happened to me last winter. I used a parallel splice on the wiring inside the relay box to fix it. You're not getting power to the starter relay. You can jumer it by pulling the relay, turning the ignition on and briefly touching a jumper wire between + terminal and the load (downstream) side of the relay socket.

Message: BOB....i am not a mechanic and i definately do not dispute your knowledge---but i read other post on this forum that referred to the "wiring bundle" perhaps being the culprit. but if i interpreted their answers correctly if this was the problem then neither the "check engine" light or "abs" light would come on when you put the key in the on posistion. when ignition is in turned on both of these lights come on. ??
