Subject: K&N Different Engine AirIntake Question IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2003 3.9L V6, and i notcied that the engine compartment is set up the same way as the 5.9L V8, while the 4.7L V8 engine compartment is set up a little differently. I noticed that K&N makes intakes for the 5.9 and 5.2L V8 models but not for the 3.9L V6, and it seems for the most part that the stock air intake system is set up the same for the 5.9 and 3.9, so would putting an K&N air intake system meant for the 5.9 and 5.2L models, make a difference on the 3.9L V6 model??? The only thing i could think of is that maybe the throttle bodies would be different, due to the engine sizes, but it seems that the length would not make a differnce. The system also comes with an air box. Has anyone place a different engine size intake on their V6 model, and does anyone recommend one intake system form the other?? Any suggestions would be greately appericated. Included is a link the the K&N website for the product i am talking about.

Message: I was also wondering if this K&N 77 series intake would work. It is for the 4.7L V8, same year as mine.

Also, has anyone tried the AEM Brute Force intake and what are their thoughts on that one??

Message: Amsoil has a better filter, so you might just look for plumbing.
A guy, on another site, had the muffler shop bend pipe to his specs to install his Paxton. Maybe that would work for you.

Message: You could try to make it work... like you said the only
problem would be the throttle body.... the intake would
work the same whether it was for a 5.9 or a 3.9.... I
doubt they would have a tube size difference.. but as for
the throtte body.... you'd have to get the specs and see
if they would match up!
If K&N doesn't work for you, you could always go for the
MAC... Intake... Mine works perfectly fine.... and it
always catches people eyes cause it's shiny! "Polished
Stainless Steel" You could also try ebay if nothing
else... I could have sworn that K&N made one for the
3.9 like 3 yrs ago when I was looking into intakes.. just
my thoughts... take if you want.....leave em if you don't
