Subject: 3.9 to 5.2 upgrade info IP: Logged
Message: my 2000 dak needs a new engine. i was wondering if i was going to put the money into a new engine i might as well upgrade. does anyone have any info on this and if it is even a good idea? does the 5.2 bolt into a 3.9's mounts? it seems to be that the 5.2 gets about the same mileage as the 3.9 so i guess this is where i'm justifying this. and if someone does think it's a good idea is there anywhere to find used or rebuilt 5.2's?

Message: well i would have to say check with your states emissions law to determine if you can... cause in most states on emissions testing they just plug in to your vehicles data link connector to see if your vehicles emissions related sensors are working properly and to see if the readings are within standards..... and the only thing i can think that would be different would on the emissions part would be the fact that the O2s would be switching different.... dodge might have different emissions standards that might effect ya at the emissions testing stations wether your runnin a 3.9 or 5.2.... now i live in MD and i know of one person that did do a swap from a 3.9 to a 5.2 and when he went to emissions their computer told him he failed cause the trucks VIN was labeled for a 6 and he had a 8.... he went into the main office and told them his motor went up and he put a 99 5.2 motor from a dakota in his 99 3.9 dakota and they ran his truck back through the test but listed as a V8 and he passes but had to fill out some paper work in order for it to be emissions legal....

Message: The o2's same year same sensor V6 318 360
go right to NGK.com and get good sensors we have
been running into probs with the bosch sensors
they work well for the first 10 to 30,000 miles
than they start running lean and make your truck
very slugish checking them with a scanner will
not show the problem but with an ociliscope you
can see it very well they don't work right
hers another tip on o2s if the one you get to
replace the org and the end does not look the
same question its use in your vehicle they are
designed for specific purpose and do not
interchange head design
