Subject: 3.9 to 5.9 swap questions

My question of the swap is, is the 3.9 wiring harness compatable to the 5.9 pcm an motor in that i only need to add 2 injector wires for it to work? Does everything still function properly such as AC, 4 wheel ABS, cruise control, an gauges. Would the transmission to the 5.9 need new connectors and will it all fit in a 2002 4x4 slt quad cab? Is there any difference between the ram 5.9 and the dakota 5.9 motor an pcm?

Well i just had to tuesday haul a 10,000 lbs trailer full of cattle 60 miles cause the full size truck broke down. The little 3.9 handled it and would take hills at 40 mph in first but i did recieve 7 mpg doing so. If you know much about cattle they loose around 100 lbs everytime their shipped. So being able to ship them with the dakota saved me the cost of feeding them for another week and another 100 lbs weight loss. The weight loss savings alone added up to atleast $240 more profit for the 4 cows i hauled and thats at $0.60 cents a pound.
But i guess your right i may be lacking in the brains department.

From what i came across it appears the 5.9 uses the same mounts and everythings the same size to the point that i can use the existing drive shaft that i currently have. Also from what i read i only need to add 2 injector wires to run the additional injectors.
My question is what pins on the pcm plug do i need to add the 2 additional wires to?

Other then that it appears its a plug and play system jsut requiring me to shorten the fan shroud and add 2 injector wires. Ill shoot http://www.engine-swaps.com an email to see what i need but right now im just getting my info straight before i buy the parts.

use the 46RE trans that comes behind the 5.9. the 5.9 was an option in '00 & up in the QC Dak's and not exclusive to the R/T's. finding a wrecked 4x4 QC '00 & up with a 5.9 would make the job much easier. just grab the harness, PCM, engine & tranny and bolt eveything up.

try www.car-part.com. it can search salvage yards across the country and Canada for whatever you need. some of the vendors there offer pretty decent warranties on engines and trannys.

All will bolt right up you can use the A500 TRANS
but I would recomend a shift kit 92 to 98 TCI
220500 I also like to use the cusion blockers
in the front and rear servos a machine shop can
make these for around $30 for both if you need
dimensions on the blockers let me know this works
very well also do the TCC drill hole and mod valve
to send more fluid to the lockup converter it will
run cooler to firm this up just drill the hole
in the plate on body bigger most are .050 but do
not go behond .080 unless you replace the seal
rings by the pump with low drag high temp rings
or you can blow them out

obd1
pin 17 #7 injector
pin 18 # 8 injector

cant remember obd2 pin #s

Use the V8 comp and all will work just as befor

Many sucesful V8 swaps using the A500 trans as
long as you make it a little stronger

I was having trouble locating the transfer case and 46re transmission for the 5.9. The closest i could find was 300 miles away and from the sounds of it, it needed a major rebuild.

Would the modified A500 handle any mods or should i keep looking until i get a beefier transmission?

I was told just a few days ago that when i install the v8 pcm that i will need my current vin and mileage flashed from the v6 pcm to the v8 pcm in order for the motor to run.
Do i just send it into a performance shop or a dealership and hand both pcms to them for the reflash?
