Subject: Diesel Project? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2004 with the 3.7L which is the same as the new jeep liberty. I hear they are coming out with a diesel for the liberty. Also, the Dodge sprinter has a turbo diesel 2.8L in their van as an option. This design and engine comes from europe. Dak's used to have a diesel option in export versions by a company in Italy that supplied them... does anyone know a diesel swap from any of these transplants? liberty, sprinter, or euro-dak?

Message: well if anything old diesels didnt have emissions... so you could out a gas engine in and have it being a gas drinkin b!tch and make wicked azz power.... but for a gas engine which has emissions would be more difficult because your vehicle would never pass....

Message: I read that as well about the diesel liberties. I thought I also read that it won't be available in the US, only europe.
If you search youtube.com for dodge ram, you'll find a "review" of the ram by a guy in london. As you see it drive down the road, you'll notice it's leaps and bounds bigger than anything on the road. It's even a little hard to navigate some roads as they are not used to vehicles that big.
I showed that video to some folks in our london office. They were perplexed why we need vehicles that big. lol

Message: The diesel libertys are out there now. I have seen them (heck their is one at the stealership in town). From what I have heard though they need some help to make them much of a power house. I say if you got the funds do it!!!

Message: If you really want to do it, I'd vote for the Sprinter diesel. I drove a Sprinter for endurance tests on a course that beat the snot out of vehicles. I was VERY impressed with that engine (I think it's a Mercedes diesel) and transmission combination. Even with that thing loaded up with shotbags for ballast to simulate an overload, it accelerated up a hill very nicely. Couldn't tell much about fuel efficiency because of the way we were driving it, but it seemed to do pretty OK compared to some of the bigger stuff we ran- Powerstrokes, IH T-444. If you could find one reasonably priced, I'd say it would be da bomb in a Dakota.
