Message: My 2000 2wd is making a pretty consistent squealing coming from the front left even when the brakes are not applied. I took of the tire to see if the pads were rubbing but they didnt look like they were, also rotated tthe rotor and the squeal was still there. Today it got worse, just after I pulled out of my driveway a popping sound could be heard, it kinda sounded like a tire blow but it wasnt. That continued off and on today mostly at low speeds. Lastly today when I gradually applied brakes the truck would vibrate like it was driving on a grooved road but it wasnt. If anybody has heard of this or has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks.

Message: It could be the upper control arm mounting hardware is not tight. It can slip when applying brakes and it will make a terrible pop/bang. This will throw out your alignment.
You can't tell if the nuts are tight enough, unless they are really loose.
Get a front end alignment, and tell the mech to be sure to tighten the control arm nuts to spec or more. I think the spec is 150 foot-pounds.

Message: well if you can spin your wheel when you have the frontend jacked up and it still squeals then ehteir your backing plate is rubbing the rotor or on the brake pad there is a squealer tab that touchs the rotor when the pads get low enough... there might look like there is enough pad material there but that tab could be rubbing and thats a just a warning indicator that lets you know its time for your brakes to be serviced befor the pads go metal to metal and destroy your rotor....
