Subject: 1992-93 exhaust manifold IP: Logged
Message: Is it worth the money and effort to get the 92-93 exhaust manifolds to replace my 1994 ones?
How can I tell I am buying the 92-93 manifolds?
Any markings to tell the difference?
Thanks

Message: Was worth it to me. Did the same thing, and picked up 1.5 mpg. Went to bone yard an got a set and had them ceramic coated inside and out. Be prepared to get a new y-pipe. The stock size y-pipe on the 92-93 was 2.25" o.d.. On my 00' the y-pipe was 1.625 o.d.. Had one fabricated with 2.25 pipe. Bad Idea! Killed low end. Had another made with 2". Just right. Little low end loss but nothing major. Total cost for everything, including new magnaflow and all new pipe, manifold to tip, $685. By the way, when you get on it, you will know the difference.

Message: Thanks EJ2kota, just what I needed to know.
I wondered about the y-pipe size, so thanks again.
What kind of a shop does ceramic coating?
And what does it cost?

Message: EJ2kota,
What size is the rest of your piping?
The 2" y-pipe, that's OD, right?
FYI, I sent a set of manifolds to Classic today.
Thanks

Message: Yes,that is 2" OD on the y-pipe. The collector on the manifold is 2.5". Need to reduce. The stock size on my 00' was 1.625" OD. With the 2" you will lose some low end, nothing drastic. The rest of the pipe is stock size 2.5" single pipe. My new Superchips took care of low end.

Message: if you bolt on a set of headers a high flow cat
and a low restriction cat back in a stock truck
low end will drop off but you will pick up 5 to
10 hp above 3,000rpm
Now if the intake side is improved
cold air
bigger throttle body
1.7's
Than there is no low end loss actually it will
gain off idle and pick up from 16 1800rpm
around 2000 2500rpm the exhaust will show a 10
to 15hp gain at the wheels
now if you remove the bottle neck at the intake
manifold flange by gasket matcing at 2000 2500rpm
the exhaust will show 15 to 20hp at the wheels
Providing all your sensors are working properly
This does not include the intake side work just
what the exhaust can add
With a head cleanup and polish gasket match 1.7
and a 46fastman or 48mm f&b I have seen gains
upto 24hp with the exhaust work
the intake work will gain 30 to 35hp above 3000rpm
as I have said a stock truck will run around 120
140 at the wheels and doing all this rear wheel
hp can hit 175hp with the head work another 10
to 12 185 187
The only way to go behond that is with a cam
higher compression or stroking, nitrious S/C or
a turbo
doing the intake and shorting the runners with
all the intake side improvements I have seen 40hp
gains on that side that is the max on the intake
side 35 to 40hp 20 to 25 on exh side
my 95 4x4 with all this done shows 189/240 the
only way to go behond that is internal engine
mods but I am hitting 24 25mpg so I think I will
leave it as is
my 4.0 stroker cam and 10.5 to1 is 309/322 but
only gets 19mpg on the highway and is good for
crap under 2500 3000rpm 4.10 gears and a 2200
stall coverter behind this in a 94 2 wheel sport
has done a 13.2 13.3 1/4 mile that with full
length ladder bars
My 3.58 stroker 267/300 will do 14.4 but it gets
22 23mpg on the highway with 3.91 and comes on
strong at 2000rpm
I guess it all depends on how much you want to
spend and what you plan to do with the truck
The only way to go behond that on these 2 motors
would be forced air induction or nitrious
