You didnt tell what years you are talking about BUT i know a 99 V8 trans WILL bolt to a V6. The 42RE(V6) trans is the same as the 44RE(V8). The only thing the 44RE has that the other doesnt is two more clutchs in the two clutch packs in the trans...

All have the same bolt pattern must use correct
flex plate and converter
We just put a 46RH into a 88 dakota V6 truck
A500 like old 904
A518 like old 727
They just added the O/D in the rear section and
the lockup to them a lot of the older parts are
interchangeable to the newer transmissions
The 44 is a A500 used behind a lot of 318 daks
36 46 is the A518
in 95 they went to the 4 series 94 and older
32 34 36
