Subject: rough idle IP: Logged
Message: I recently bought an 02 DAK Quad cab 4X4 that over the last couple of days has started to idle rough. It starts fine in the morning but acts like it wants to shut off when idling-idles around 800 RPM. This morning the check engine light came on and has stayed on-checked oil and it is full. Not sure if the 7 straight days of rain has anything to do with it or if it is just coincidental but any help would be appreciated.

Message: Have you pulled the codes on it yet?
If it doesn't fit, you're using the wrong hammer!

Message: The codes will tell you the area of concern, but you mentioned that it had been raining for 7 days straight... Did you happen to fill up with gas in the last 7 days and did this problem soon follow? I was just wondering because usually when tankers come to refill the tanks at the station while it's raining there's always the possibility of water and dirt to wash into the fuel tanks... A misfire would cause the check engine light and the rough idle... It's a good possibility that you may have water in your gas or even dirt clogging your fuel injectors...
This is all of course if you had filled up with gas in the last 7 days and your actual problem was a resultant of a misfire condition...

Message: well water in the tank i would role out cause most gas stations have filters that remove any water that may be in the gas tanks in the ground.... if its been raining for 7 days straight like ya said... most likely you got bad wires.... i dont think ya got a distributer cap cause in 02 i think they went with the 3.7 and did away with the distributers.... if ya got the 3.9 in your truck check the cap first or just replace the cap with the wires and it should be ok.... they are the first to go to have problems when moisture is involved....
