Subject: abs & brake light on...speedo fine
IP: Logged

Message:
Ok the abs & brake light are on but my speedo is fine. Ive already tried resetting the comp but they came back on in no time. Filled the fluid and checked everywhere but no leaks. Checked the brake booster but its ok. When i press the brakes they act fine then a few seconds later the pedal depresses about another 1/2 inch to keep the same pressure, but it never goes all the way to the floor. There is plenty of braking power.

could be a bad abs unit... if ya only got rear abs there isnt much to check... the rear sensor could be bad but then again the abs unit it self could also be bad... have the code pulled so then in return you can fix your problem... the code should tell ya where the fault is...

Scott's right, the code will tell you, but the only thing that I personally know of that will cause both lights to come on is the resevoir level and I see you've allready stated that you've filled the resevoir up... However that does not mean that the sensor in the resevoir isn't stuck in the low fluid level position... Unhook the sensor and see if the light then goes off, if it does then more than likely besides the posible internal short in the sensor itself, the sensor is just stuck in the low level position... If it's still on then there's the posibility that your two wires are shorted together else where... Hope this will help a little...

Ill do the code thing but what im more worried about is the pedal travel during braking.

i am willing to bet that if your truck is the same as mine (90) then the rear load equalizer (not sure of it's exact name) is screwed up, thus the pedal travel. in short the abs is affected by the load in the bed and there is a mechanism that adjusts the rear brakes accordingly. it's on the inside drivers side frame rail just about the top shock mount. look for leaks, corrosion on wires etc... maybe try bleeding it out (this worked for mine).
