Message: Hi
I'm thinking about getting an Edelbrock Round Air Cleaner for my 98 V6.
I heard a lot of different things about them. Some say they gained power and milage, some say they lost power and milage.
I'm looking especially for mpg...so what are your experiences with the system?
Thanks for any info

Message: Here's what I think. Pro's. Your going to get a bit better airflow into the engine and on certain cooler/high humidity days better performance (Small amount) And if you don't take advantage of this you could gain a minimal amount of milage say 1/2 to 1 mpg. Con's . Your going to be sucking hotter air by taking it from the top center of your engine/compartment. this will mean thinner air cutting performance Except for the cooler days mebtioned above. Your stock one isn't perfect but it is presenting cooler air although maybe restricted a bit more but cooler means denser so again it's going to be a close call which way is best. Some days one will win and other days it will be reversed. Now if you like to hear the sucking sound at open throttle, your headed in the right direction.
So many problems .... So little time

Message: i've done the change from stock to the 10"inch chrome air cleaner assembly with the k&n air filter and have never noticed any power decrease, sounds abit loud on acceleration, and mileage and power have increased slightly as well, your call man, i only spent 40 for the edelbrock set up and 60 for the k&n filter not to expensive, so if you don't like it not to much of a lose.

Message: Your truck will look like it has balls...go for it.
Total cost approx $60... $20 for the intake, $40 for the K&N filter if you decide to get one. You'll need to do the s-bolt mod as well.

Message: I have the lund eclispe hood scoop on my truck
with a 14X3 K&N and a extream top
K&N air filter $140
exstream top $60
scoop $60
install and paint was free for me but probably
a good $100 to cut the hole and paint the scoop
But I like the idea of raming that cold air
right down the trottle body with the IAT in the
bottom of the air cleaner it reads outside air
temp around 45 mph blasting air in there
Lots of people tell me it looks like one of the
old six pac scoops I should have made it a shacker
maybe I will do that some day that would be cool
click on the pic for my profile there is a bigger
picture and you can see it a little better
I have sponges lime green to match my stripes that
I pop in when its raining or snowing hard takes
just a few secs to put them in
I have also ran in very heavy rain without them and had no probs a car wash did get me once when
the elect fan came on and soaked my motor down it
missed for a few minits than it was fine

Message: Madmason - I installed the 10" edelbrock and K&N filter on my old 95 CC 3.9L V6 auto 4x4. I did not notice much of any difference except better throttle response. I was able to drive it harder and have no loss of milage. Truck was all stock except autolight wires/plugs, m1 synthetic oil, ATF+4 mopar trany fluid, tonneau and the edelbrock air cleaner and i got 17-18 mpg city and up to 25 highway depending on speed.
I traded the 95 in on a 02 QC 4.7L in January. I left the 10" edelbrock on it, but kept the K&N. I used the E-1065 as the other model referred to in the link GB2000 posted didn't fit well for me. The E-1065 fits nicely. Not sure if the 98 has an s-bolt or not, but my 95 had a straight bolt coming from the tb to hold the air hat on. I had to remove the TB and install a longer bolt which i picked up from lowes for < $0.40 and cut to fit. If you have to remove the TB, be sure to get a new TB gasket.
Here is a picture of the set up in my old 95.

If you are interested in going forward, let me know, I am willing to sell the k&N filter. It has < 15k miles on it. I am located in georgia.

Message: Thanks for all that info.
also thanks for the offer dan, but i'm located in germany, so shipping would be pretty expensive.
Because laws are pretty strict over here, i just checked with an mechanic whether the round air cleaner and hood scoop would be street legal and he just said hell no.
