Subject: MPG with new 4.1 gears IP: Logged
Message: I just completed my first 470miles with my new 4.10 gears. I changed from 3.55 to increase my towing ability. For city driving I got 16mpg.
This was all city driving. I was getting about 16.5 mpg with the 3.55 gears. The truck gets moving much faster and I find myself driving faster also.
I'm going on a long highway trip soon - I compute that mpg and post it here.
It cost 1,200 to to change the gears.

Message: Thanks for the update, Dex. Let us know how it does on the highway. I'm real interested in knowing how well it does.
It's funny! My 2002 does pretty good pulling 2500 pounds, but 3500 was another story altogether. I had rented a machine similar to a Bobcat, plus a utility trailer. The trailer by itself was 1000 lbs, and the machine was 2600 pounds. I learned two things that day: 1) My truck don't tow real heavy stuff worth a damn, and 2) I better keep my day job, 'cause I wouldn't make it as a Bobcat operator.

be better
I have seen trucks improve going from 3.55 to 3.91
the 4.10 usualy shows a 1mpg drop don't forget
the o/d is .69 to 1 so you would be around 3.2

Message: TuckerLdlow,
What gears do you currently have in your 3.9L?
Is it a QC?

Message: Sorry! Been off the networks for a couple days while I went and lost a goodly part of my posterior at the casinos over in Tunica, MS.
Mine is an SLT, and has the 3:55 gears.
