Message: You change oil and filters anyhow, so change to a quality synthetic oil, synthetic oil filter and really good cleanable air filter.
Why?
1. extended engine life.
2. savings from going further between changes.
3. maybe a modest MPG improvement.
4. less pollution (see 2) so environmentalists will leave you alone....except you drive an evil SUV/truck.
I suggest Amsoil because they are the leader in the abovementioned.

Message: Read this months Sport Truck. Article about getting +10 RWHP simply by switching to synthetic fluids in entire drivetrain. Greatly reduces friction. BTW, they used Royal Purple for their test.

Tearing down someone or a company and it's products does not elevate you. To the contrary, you seem small, illiterate and uneducated.
Are you incapible of providing logic and facts to support your position?

Message: Keeping unecessary weight out of the truck can help to, Huge subs are great but your also adding alot of weight, aerodynamics take a key role here also, visors and even small auxilary lights will produce more drag. With all those and more together can really add up!
But seriously who cares about gas milage ha ha ha that's why we drive trucks and not cars!
One more thing is to leave the tailgate UP! It reduces mpg when its down due to restrictions on the air coming off the truck and over the back. Not sure exactly how it works but its something to deal with the airpressure in your bed. Tonneau/toppers work well also.

Does Royal Purple really work best? They push it alot on Spike TV on Sundays. Has anyone used it? What are the fluids that in the drivetrain would need to be replaced?
Also I thought that leaving the tailgate DOWN would create more aerodynamic truck. It just seems more logical. Has anyone done a test on it?

Message: I had a bad experience with Mobil 1 synthetic. Seems the truck liked to burn it past the rings. Never burned a drop until I changed the oil and put in the synthetic. Checked it a couple thousand kms later and it was down a litre. Drained it out and went back to Castrol GTX 5W30. Hasn't burned any yet. I will never use synthetic of any type again. I have talked to others that have experienced the same problem. If anyone knows why, please explain.

Message: If you have a more worn engine, using synthetic may cause you to burn oil. The molecules that the synthetics are based off of are smaller (an more uniform in diameter) than the molecules in dyno oil. With a smaller diameter molecule then more will get by the oil rings on the pistons.

Message: bludak & cruzindoug,
It is possible to cause enough wear as you are going up to 70,000km to burn oil. It could be short commute and not heating up properly, hard driving, not too good oil, or all of the above.
I'm continually amazed at newer vehicles smoking like crazy. Somebody abused it.
The opposite end of the spectrum is me; I used synthetic from the start and it took so long to break-in properly the engine had 100,000 miles before I got my best gas mileage. That same engine now has 500,000 miles on it, and it doesn't use oil, unless you count a quart every 10,000 miles or more.
Interesting theory about molecule size. What is important is the uniformaty compared to conventional oil. That is part of why it lubricates better.
You might ask Steve Roark (found elsewhere on this site) and ask him why you might have more oil consumption.
